Why tension matters
Too little tension can allow wire vibration, path deviation, and unstable contact. Too much tension increases stress on the wire, joint, and guide wheels.
Some silicon loop wire studies mention tension values around 60-100 N for their experimental setup, while marble studies also analyze tension as one of the surface roughness factors.
Practical interpretation
Tension should be set according to wire diameter, loop length, wheel diameter, material load, and machine design. The correct value is a range that maintains stability without approaching failure.
Jointed endless wire requires extra caution because the joint may behave differently from the coated wire body.
